IHF’s Bali Center is a singularly unique environment with a rich history. The result of years of collective effort, it has now helped hundreds of Indonesian children to forge their paths in the world. Surrounded by a waterfall and koi-filled pond and abutted on one side by a fishing village and on the other side by a temple, the Bali Center is the perfect environment for students and volunteers alike to reach for the stars.
LAND
PURCHASE
In 1999, founder Carol Sasaki purchased land to build a guest house and home for her children to rest between traveling and living with tribes in other countries.
MOVING
IN
Carol’s daughter Crystal designed the house to be in the middle of a pond with water all around it. After living in a desert with tribes, the idea of so inexpensively being by water thrilled her. Water was precious to the family. Another thrill—the earth was so rich. You broke a twig from a tree, stick it in the ground, and it grew!
NEW
FAMILY
When the Bank Bali scandal occurred and the associated bank crises hit, the needs of surrounding families became obvious. Soon, the vacation home became yet another IHF center filled with the laughter and joy of children and their parents.
GROWING
UP
Carol’s daughter Crystal grew up in Bali center, and always loved to swim and play with the turtles around the center after her schoolword was done.
BUILDING
COMMUNITY
Local teachers gathered to volunteer their time. More and more students came. Mothers helped to create a needed medical emergency fund for the villages. The center sits between an ancient Muslim village and an ancient Hindu village. The women from both villages come and stitch products to sell in our IHF store for the medical fund.
