Daily life was a relentless battle in the Hassan household. Shakir often went to school with an empty stomach, hunger a constant companion. The family was struck by another tragedy when, at the age of ten, their mother returned home, only to fall seriously ill and pass away a few months later. The loss plunged Shakir and Shabir into a sea of grief and emotional turmoil. However, even in the face of heart-wrenching loss, they clung to their dreams.
As time passed, their father’s mental state deteriorated, burdened by his responsibilities and the profound loss of his wife. He sought solace in alcohol, and their family’s situation grew increasingly dire. Yet, Shakir remained steadfast.
Shakir’s commitment to his education was unwavering. He was a diligent student, attending school daily with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. He never hesitated to seek help when needed, whether from his teachers, friends, or the compassionate members of their community. Shakir recognized that education was the lifeline out of the hardships that had enveloped his family for so long.

When IHF extended its hand to support Shakir, he could hardly believe his good fortune. Tears of joy streamed down his face, a powerful expression of his immense gratitude and relief. With this newfound support, he could finally pursue his education without the constant worry of where his next meal would come from or whether he’d have a uniform to wear.
Shakir’s dream is to become a doctor and, in the future, establish a hospital in the slums, providing free medical care to those who cannot afford it. His dreams are not just for his own betterment but are driven by a deep desire to uplift his community.
